Membership/Development Committee Objective:  Represent By Their Side and its mission to the public and promote progressive membership for individuals with developmental disabilities residing in Maryland by developing promotional material, a prospect list, and establishing contact with all pertinent agencies or prospective sponsors.

Membership/Development Committee Work Plan: 

  • Prepare mailing to estate planning professionals
  • Work in conjunction with PR Committee by developing advertisments/articles for publication
  • Develop a membership promotion exhibit
  • Maintain an up-to-date listing of professionals, agencies, and families in Maryland who may refer persons with developmental disabilities to By Their Side
  • Establish an active Speakers Group to make presentations to agency personnel and gatherings of potential sponsors

Mike Harris and his wife deliberately moved their daughter Linda from their home to a residential facility "almost 20 years ago, while we were relatively young." The transition was nearly seamless. Now that Mr. Harris and his wife are approaching 80, they are making another planned transition, introducing Linda to her Personal Advocate from By Their Side.

It gives Linda a chance to know them, and it gives them a chance to know Linda while we're still around to take care of any problems. Hopefully this transition will be just as seamless. I'm sure that by the time we die, they'll be thick as thieves."
